The first time Conor Kerr CEON communicated with me was when I made a small donation as a token of appreciation towards his contribution in the Zen-Cart community.
Conor developed the best URI Mapping module, and offered as free module. I am using the module and it remains as one of the most important modules I have used. When engaging a developer to help with the shopping cart upgrade, one of my pre-requisites was that the developer must guarantee that this module will continue to work after the upgrade.
Conor struck me as someone who was highly skilled in what he did, yet remained modest and polite. I was surprised that he wrote as soon as he received my tiny sized donation. He shared that I was amongst the first few who had donated, therefore he truly appreciated the gesture. I was impressed by his candor and positive outlook towards life, in spite of his health condition.
Like many others, I had the privilege to exchange some emails with Conor. You could never tell that such an enthusiastic person was suffering from brain tumor, and just had chemotherapy.
We were not friends, per se, but he was more than just an online nobody. He was somebody! We ‘saw’ one another frequently in the forum.
Instead of wallowing, Conor continued to live and work passionately. Conor passed away last night, quite unexpectedly, according to RYK, another member who has been entrusted with the heavy task to break the news. He was 34 years old.
Conor was important. Just days ago, he responded to one of my queries that I posted on the forum for support. He was always prompt and dedicated, even though the module is a free module.
I will keep him and his family in my thoughts. Rest in peace, Conor, thank you for crossing my path.
Internet has changed our way of life forever. Online friends are not just empty or light-weighted usernames, they have important places in our minds and hearts.
Treat the online friends with the same respect and love as you would with your physical friends; behind a username or cartoon avatar, lives a real person with real life and real problems.
